ARBORICULTURE

& TREE SURGERY

At OTM, the Arboriculture team is made up of specialist, qualified tree surgeons, with advanced knowledge, training and experience. We are able to offer a flexible tree care service tailored to the challenges posed by each individual tree. All tree work at OTM is carried out in compliance with British Standards BS3998.

Arboriculture projects that we carry out include:

TREE FELLING

Tree felling is generally undertaken because a tree has become unsafe and poses a danger if left unattended. However, there are other situations which may require a tree to be removed. The felling of a tree is achieved by carefully making a series of cuts at the base of the trunk in a controlled manner to allow the tree to fall safely.

SECTIONAL FELLING & DISMANTLING

This involves carefully dismantling a tree in small sections. The techniques required are dependent on each individual tree and can include zone dropping or the use of heavy-duty rigging equipment, lowering ropes and skilled branch removal. Our team have the experience and knowledge to achieve this with expert results, with the use of lifting equipment and cranes where necessary.

CROWN REDUCTION

This is the reduction of all branches, in length, back to suitable ‘growth points’ (side branches). As a result, the entire tree crown is reduced, in size and volume, whilst retaining the natural shape of the species. This procedure can hugely increase the amount of light and space in your garden or amenity space.

CROWN THINNING

In crown thinning, branches are removed from within the tree crown in order to make it uniformly less dense. The natural shape of the tree is completely unaffected but the ‘Sail Effect’ (wind resistance) is reduced and more light can filter through.

CROWN LIFTING

Crown lifting is achieved by removing the lowest branches of the crown to a specified height. This is an effective way of increasing the amount of light and space around the tree.

DEAD WOODING

Dead wood can be a naturally occurring feature of a healthy tree however, the removal of dead or dying branches may be necessary for safety and aesthetics. Larger dead branches can be safely retained, in order to provide habitat for birds and insects, by reducing their length and weight.

STUMP REMOVAL

Stump removal can either be achieved by hand, if the stump is small enough, or the use of a stump grinding machine for larger stumps. Chemical application to the stump can also be used, allowing it to slowly decay over time.

EMERGENCY TREE WORKS

Can include emergency work to trees damaged by storms or other events, which pose a danger if left unattended. We have a team available for urgent call outs.

SITE CLEARANCE

This includes removal of trees and vegetation on development sites. This service can be provided on all scales, ranging from large construction project to smaller private sites in need of clearing. The biproducts can be processed for biomass or resale, in line with the customers needs.
